Chair's Message
I want to thank you for allowing me to be your Chair this year. I believe that over the past few years we have begun the largest transformation of the City of Minot since the devastating floods of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Back then, Minot pulled together to create a city and infrastructure that served our area so well for many years. Now Minot is changing once again and we need to continue this change if we are to continue to grow.
The Minot area is sitting at the center of some of the most exciting opportunities this country has to offer. We are in the forefront in many vital areas:
- Energy with large amounts of coal, oil, and natural gas at our doorstep,
- Renewable energy such as wind, ethanol and biodiesel,
- Telecommunications with an advanced digital infrastructure that has connected Minot
with the rest of the world,
- Education with a highly respected primary and secondary school system plus a
renewed emphasis on the role Minot State University has in our development,
- Exports with the creation of the port of North Dakota,
- Agriculture which produces both food and fuel,
- Retail base that continues to grow and expand,
- National defense with the two missions at Minot Air Force Base and the continued growth of our Army Reserve/National Guard,
It really is an exciting time to be in Minot. I firmly believe that our theme shoe be: “The best is yet to come.” Join with us as we move toward a brighter future. We need everyone’s input and enthusiasm.
